2012 Free WordPress Themes
I am looking forward to seeing what this year has to offer for themes. To start us off we have collected 10 themes to give us a good start the new year.
These handpicked themes are worth a download, so check out the review from Web Courses and then below each theme is the authors view on their hard work.
Photography Theme Wallbase
I think this is a nice theme, good colours and structure and a perfect theme for Photographers. The inner pages look nice and the blog is well designed.
Wallbase is our new fab series WordPress theme released following the success of the shuttershot theme. This too is a full screen slideshow portfolio theme. The theme has option to use either a full screen slideshow on the homepage or a regular blog with image slideshow as the background. I have setup a screencast to show you how to add images to the full screen slideshow. Tutorial: http://www.web2feel.com/wallbase/.
Portfolio Theme Parralax
A nice and simple theme. The slider is smooth and the small thumbnails change the slider instantly, however I would prefer to be taken to that specific items portfolio page. The portfolio view is nice and cleanly laid out but the transition when filtering is a little weird. As with most free themes the blog needs a little more love but keeps the overall simple feel going well.
This free WordPress template has been designed to help you make your stuff look awesome, it’s focus is on clean, elegant looks and simplicity to allow your work to shine.
Estate Agency Theme
Despite the slightly dated design this theme is an excellent way to list apartments, condos and homes etc. It does not allow people to add their own listing but has the ability to feature listings. The blog is nice and simple. Uninspiring but functional.
You might have to slap yourself to believe that this is a free theme. Avenue is the very best free real estate theme you will get your hands on. This theme is fully loaded like any premium real estate theme out there. But here you can download this beauty for free and setup a powerful real estate listing website on your own. The theme comes with WordPress features like Custom post types, custom menus, custom taxonomies, Custom meta boxes, featured thumbnails, Theme options etc. More info: http://www.web2feel.com/avenue/.
Minimal Theme – Beauty and Clean
This theme lives up to it’s name. It has basic shotcodes, a portfolio and a nice slider. The only thing I would say is that the call to actions e.g. read more are a little under whelming. Other than that it is clean, simple, easy to navigate and install.
The theme has 5 different page templates: home page, about page, portfolio, blog and contact page.
Use the custom post types for testimonials, team and news and set your page quick and easier.
We provide some fresh custom widget to give a new perspective to your pages.
Responsive Framework Skeleton
All themes in 2012 should be responsive, for the ones above that are not I recommend trying Mobify to make your site into something for everyone.
The theme is clean and easy to use and when used as a framework you can create some nicely designed responsive themes.
Responsive web design is a popular topic these days, and is proving to be a great avenue for promoting usability, simplicity, and overall compatibility. We’ve decided to build our latest simple WordPress theme around a very popular responsive boilerplate, coupled with the popular Options Framework for full customization. Skeleton includes a free bbPress(2) theme and it’s absolutely free! Take Skeleton for a test drive and download it today.
Artsy Theme Modern
I really like this theme, it has a prominent grid that just makes it feel tidy. I choose this theme as I think it would be idea for a art gallery website. Also if you are a photographer into black and white it would make your pictures really stand out. Listings page design is clean and easy to navigate so if you have a lot of content your users will not get lost.
Beautiful minimal and modern WordPress themes.
Design for illustrators, photographers and graphic designers.
The focus should be on your Work not the theme.
Application Theme – Shaken Invoice Lite
First of all what a great idea of a theme producer to give away a lite version. I certainly would like to see what I am getting before I pay the full fifty bucks. The lite version is limited but gives you enough functionality to get things going. It has that Ruby on Rails design feel to it and the UI is gorgeous. Worth a try and maybe a buy.
Do you need to accept payments online for invoices or send quotes to potential clients? Are you tired of paying a monthly fee to do this online through 3rd party services, or worse yet, sending the invoices as an attachment in an e-mail? Shaken Invoice was created to address those issues plus others.
Video Theme by Templatic
I am a fan of the functionality of the themes from Templatic however often their themes have a lot of weird problems. To counteract that they give you excellent support. The Video theme was perfect for our tutorials website and it now works fine. Highly recommended if you want to use it for TV shows, reviews or anything video orientated.
Fully customizable front page. The homepage of the theme is completely customizable via custom dynamic widgets specifically built for this theme.
Free Web Courses Bangkok Theme
Yes ladies and gentleman we will be creating a series of free themes as part of our new Advanced WordPress courses coming this year 2012. If you are interested in our theme then leave a comment below.
Our theme is totally custom and we are thinking of giving at away for free later this year, but that depends on you, comment below if you would like us to make it available to the public?
