Getting connections and making friends on facebook organically is as hard as it should be. You are dead right about being corporate sleaze! Asking questions, or better yet, answering them is probably the best method I have found when trying to connect to people. You will get exactly what you put into it and it might be slow going, but in the end, the actual earned results will take you much farther than anything that can be purchased…
